Academic Record

The Southern Highlands School has maintained outstanding academic performances in Standard VII National Examinations, with all candidates who sat for examinations passing and being selected for progression in government secondary schools. The school has consistently been ranked among the best primary schools in the country.

  • Southern Highlands School boasts 11 straight years of 100% passes for all Standard VII candidates (see table below).
  • In the National Standard VII examinations for the year ended 2011, the National Examination Council of Tanzania, NECTA, ranked the school Number 3 in Mufindi district (out of 154); Number 6 in Iringa Region (out of 866); 102nd in the nation out of 15,051 primary schools.
  • In the National Standard VII examinations for the year ended 2010, the National Examination Council of Tanzania, NECTA, ranked the school Number 1 in Mufindi district (out of 149); Number 2 in Iringa Region (out of 830); 24th in the nation out of 14,759 primary schools.
  • In the National Standard VII examinations for the year ended 2009, the National Examination Council of Tanzania, NECTA, ranked the school Number 1 in Mufindi district (out of 149) and Iringa Region (out of 830) respectively; 14th in the nation (out of 14,376 primary schools.)
  • In the National Standard VII examinations for the year ended 2008, the National Examination Council of Tanzania, NECTA, ranked the school 4th (out of 147) in Mufindi District; 7th (out of 823) in Iringa region; 68th in the nation (out of 13,948) primary schools.

  • The Mufindi District Schools Inspectorate, in May 2009, awarded Southern Highlands School a Grade 1 Certificate of Excellence for scoring 94% in performance. This is after the Inspectorate noted the “Clean school surroundings and dormitories; Neat pupils; Attendance of 100%; Adequacy of teaching and non-teaching staff, classrooms, furniture, textbooks and security”
  • In 2012, the school was ranked 3rd in the district. there were no rankings for regional and national level provided.
  • In 2013, the school was ranked 2nd in the district out of 163 schools; 9th in the region out of 449 schools and 288 nationally out of 15,656 schools.
  • In 2014 the school was 1st in the district out of 167 school; 8th regionally out of 458 schools and 353 nationally out of 15,867 schools.

The school has put in place measures to ensure that it maintains 100% pass mark in all the years.
